International Scholarships

The Cusanuswerk encourages its scholarship recipients expressly to plan stays abroad that support academic, professional and personal development. Stays in developing countries and experiences within the field of international development and cooperation are especially encouraged. In principle, the selection, preparation and structure of periods abroad lie in the hand of the scholarship recipients themselves. The Cusanuswerk can offer financial and organisational support.

Financial support is paid as an allowance on top of the national scholarship. It can consist of four components:

  • Travel cost lump sum (staggered according to country)
  • Fee contribution
  • Living cost lump sum (staggered according to country) or daily allowance
  • Payment of travel health insurance

To support the organisation of a stay aboard, we can provide experience reports from scholarship recipients who have completed similar stays. Furthermore, we provide guidance about further funding as well as references, confirmations etc.If a further scholarship is awarded for the duration of the stay abroad from another institution, it will be, as with any other income, offset against the international scholarship from the Cusanuswerk.

Deadlines for ApplicationAn application for the funding of a stay abroad should be made as early as possible, if possible three months before the start of the desired stay, so that details can be clarified. Closing dates for 2008/2009:
